Leonard Maltin


Leonard Michael Maltin is an American film critic and historian, author of several mainstream books on cinema, focusing on nostalgic, celebratory narratives. He is known as a goto critic for the major studios, for writing the shortest review in the U.S. and creating the Walt Disney Treasures series.

Maltin was born in New York City, son of singer Jacqueline , and Aaron Isaac Maltin , a lawyer and immigration judge. He is married to researcher and producer Alice Tlusty. He has one daughter, Jessica Bennett Maltin, born in 1986, who works with him . Maltin is Jewish. Maltin grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey, and graduated from Teaneck High School. He described his relationship with fellow film critic Roger Ebert as friendly but not close.
